A nice afternoon, followed by renewed rain chances Thursday

We’re watching some isolated rain moving across portions of southern Nebraska as of early Wednesday. These showers are few and far between, and we cannot rule out a few of these mainly south of I-80 near communities like Beatrice, Hebron, and Fairbury on Wednesday morning.

As the day progresses, an area of high pressure begins to influence our pattern more and these showers will push off to the south. Everyone should be dry for the afternoon.

While the morning may feature more clouds, we expect the sun to poke out during the afternoon. We’re forecasting partly cloudy skies for most with highs in the upper-80s. While it will be warm, the air won’t be humid.

Wednesday Forecast

Clouds begin to increase on Wednesday night along with relatively cool overnight lows compared to recent days, in the middle to upper-60s.

Wednesday Night Forecast

The relief from the humidity will be short-lived, as dew points begin to rise once again on Thursday. In fact, we have renewed storm chances starting as early as Thursday morning. Various runs of Stormcast have shown the potential for some morning showers and storms to arrive in southeast Nebraska.

Stormcast Thursday Morning

It’s looking as if there will be a lull in activity in the afternoon before another round of storms develops in central Nebraska on Thursday evening. That round approaches southeast Nebraska in the late evening and overnight hours.

Any storms that develop during the evening may be on the strong to severe side. Large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado are possible with these storms. At this point, the main concern appears to be west of Lincoln, near the Tri-Cities. However, a strong to severe storm closer to Lincoln is not totally out of the question.

Severe Weather Potential

On Friday, we’ll have both the heat and humidity. However, things will trend cooler and drier throughout the weekend. Sunday looks like a gorgeous day, with highs near 80° with dew points in the 40s!
