An Atkins Iowa man was taken into custody Tuesday night after a traffic stop found him in possession of meth.

Police stopped 49-year-old Luke Truesdell near the intersection of Bancroft and Tracy at  approximately 7 o’clock because his vehicle had no plates attached. When the officer approached the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was allegedly observed, and Truesdell reportedly admitted to having a marijuana pipe inside the car.

A probable cause search of the vehicle reportedly located the pipe, as well as a meth pipe and a small baggie containing a rock-like substance. Under Miranda, Truesdell allegedly admitted that the substance was methamphetamine.

While officers were searching him, Truesdell reportedly began ingesting an unknown substance and resisted officers. Police say they had to physically restrain him in order to get him in handcuffs.

Truesdell has been charged with a second offense drug possession count, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with official acts. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail.
