The Sixers have interest in signing Miami Heat free-agent forward P.J. Tucker when free agency begins, according to a report from Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The report says that the Sixers could offer Tucker a three-year, $30 million deal when free agency opens.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that the Sixers are actively shopping Matisse Thybulle and their first-round pick, trying to free up some cap space.

"If you're a GM in the NBA and Daryl Morey hasn't called and offered you No. 23 and Matisse Thybulle for someone on your roster, you probably have had your phone shut off," Woj said.

Thybulle, 25, has a $4.38 million cap hit for 2022-23.

The 37-year-old Tucker spent last season with the Miami Heat and helped the Milwaukee Bucks win an NBA title in 2020-21. Tucker averaged 7.6 points while shooting 41% on 2.7 threes per game last season. He shot 43% from three white averaging 8.2 points in the Heat’s six-game playoff win over the Sixers.

There have been reports that Tucker would like to go back to Miami, so it is possible the Sixers’ offer is rejected and Tucker returns to the Heat.

Tucker, who averages just 7.1 points per game in his career, does shoot 36.4-percent from three, but more importantly provides his team with a toughness and a tenacity that is hard to quantify. On the defensive side of the ball, Tucker is up for any challenge.

In the summer of 2017, Morey—who was the Rockets GM at the time—brought Tucker to Houston where he thrived. So the now Sixers president of basketball operations is likely a fan of Tucker.

Giving a 37-year old a three-year deal certainly would come with some risks, but chances are not all of the deal would be guaranteed, or it would potentially have an option year at the end.
