Home near Florence damaged by Tuesday evening fire, nobody injured

A residential fire near Florence caused significant damage to a home Tuesday evening. 

Around 5:30 p.m., Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a house fire 3 miles southeast of Florence at 16246 447th Ave., according to a news release from the fire department.

Watertown Fire Rescue sent an ambulance to the scene to assist the Florence Fire Department. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, per the release, and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is not yet  known.

An individual driving by the residence reported the fire after noticing smoke coming from the roof, according to the release. The house sustained significant damage from the fire, as well as smoke and water damage.

Codington County Emergency Management, the Codington County Sheriff's Office and Codington County Search and Rescue also responded. Crews were on the scene for four hours.
