Ronnie Lawrence Owen

Ronnie Lawrence Owen, 76, of Sulphur, Oklahoma, fell asleep in death peacefully with family and friends at his home on June 13, 2022. Ronnie was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on September 21, 1981. Ronnie’s devotion and love for his God Jehovah was shown by decades of hard work for the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Ronnie was born February 10, 1946 in Oklahoma City to Alfred and Jesse Owen. On September 11, 1982 he married his sweetheart and dearest friend, Janet Lee Harris. Ronnie and Janet were full time volunteers for many years, teaching the Bible to countless individuals around the Oklahoma City area.

As a young man, Ronnie enjoyed building race cars and spending time at the car race tracks. Ronnie worked in Oklahoma City as a skilled machinist. However, in 1986, he and Janet made a sacrifice to relocate to Sulphur, Oklahoma to help the small congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Ronnie supported his volunteer work with landscape design and ground maintenance in the Murray County area. He had many privileges of helping surrounding congregations when building new Kingdom Halls and overseeing the landscaping crew. One memorable event for Ronnie was a trip to Costa Rica to assist with earthquake disaster relief.

Ronnie had spent years driving school buses for the Oklahoma School for the Deaf. He was taught and then taught others ASL so that many could befriend the deaf community here in Sulphur.

Ronnie’s flute-like whistle and his wit for singing personalized songs are a cherished memory. His faithfulness and friendship to many are being missed now. Yet, as Ronnie did, his friends and family are longing for the scriptural promise found at Job 14:15, “You will call and I will answer you.” As Ronnie trusted, soon,”… (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more….,” Rev. 21:4
