Car becomes wedged under semi in I-65 crash; Driver in critical condition

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — A woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition after police say her car became wedged underneath a semi in a crash on I-65 South early Wednesday morning.

The serious crash happened just south of the I-865 interchange (128 mile marker) and blocked lanes for nearly five hours.

Indiana State Police say a woman was speeding on I-65 around 4:15 a.m. when her car struck the back of a semi that was traveling at “highway speed.” The impact forced her car to hit another semi tractor-trailer and then spun her underneath the semi she originally hit.

The woman was on the ground by the time first responders arrived, but police believe she climbed out on her own or was helped by bystanders. She was likely not ejected.

No one else was in the car with her. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said the lanes were back open sometime before 9:30 a.m.
