ADRIAN — The fifth year of teen summer camp at the Adrian Center for the Arts begins with a three-day session next week, and additional camp offerings for lower elementary students are in July.

Art Rocks Kids!  for teens runs Tuesday through Thursday, June 28-30. The sessions are from 1 to 4 p.m. each day. Camp is for teens 13-17, with classes taking place in the Youth Studio, building No. 46 on the campus of the ACA, 1375 N. Main St., Adrian.

Teens will experience three explorations of sculptural materials, which will combine into one large, framed project, according to a news release from the ACA. The camp will include fiber arts, carving and painting.

“Student artists will learn wet work felting to create a felted picture built with fibers,” the release said. “This felted picture will then be embellished with needlepoint felted 3D elements like the flat picture is breaking out into the third dimension. The third portion of this project will consist of making a one-of-a-kind crafted frame that will continue to carry the message of the art.”

Shine On! is the name of art camp for lower and upper elementary aged students, which will be July 18-22.

Lower elementary students in first through third grades will meet from 9 a.m. to noon daily. Students must have completed kindergarten to be eligible for participation. Upper elementary students in fourth and fifth grades will meet from 1 to 4 p.m daily. These students must have completed third grade. Both camps will meet in the Youth Studio, building No. 46.

Shine On! will explore light in many ways during the weeklong camp, the release said. Students will use different materials to create multiple projects including luminaries, cyanotype printing and glow in the dark paintings.

“Each day, students will work with the two experienced art teachers to create their own projects and one collaborative installation piece, culminating in a Friday afternoon art exhibition,” the release said.

This year’s camp leaders are Sara Sych and Taina Mantey, both kindergarten through 12th grade art teachers and member artists at the ACA, the release said. Mantey is also the ACA’s youth program director.
