Attempted murder suspect arrested after running over deputy, prompting multi-county chase

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Police arrested a man suspected of leading officers on a multi-county chase after they say he run over a Cross County deputy.

Jonesboro police said the chase started at 6:55 p.m, Tuesday, June 21.

Cross County Sheriff David West said the deputy tried to arrest the suspect at a Jordan’s Kwik Shop in Cherry Valley.

The suspect was wanted for attempted murder out of Forrest City, according to West.

He said the deputy was next to the driver’s side door of the car. The suspect then threw the car into reverse, dragging the deputy across the parking lot and into a car getting gas.

According to West, the deputy had minor injuries.

The incident then led to a chase, spanning across Poinsett and Craighead County.

Poinsett County deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but they were unsuccessful.

Jonesboro police said the suspect was in the southern part of Jonesboro, going over 100 mph in a dark blue Jeep Renegade with damage on the driver’s side.

According to Jonesboro police, officers lost the suspect, who went through the intersections of Stadium Boulevard and Parker Road, as well as Stadium Boulevard and Fox Meadow Lane.

At 9:15 p.m., Jonesboro police said the suspect’s vehicle was found, and a large police presence unfolded at Dewey Street.

At 9:55 p.m., Sheriff West said the suspect was arrested.

No names have been identified in the incident.
