New Mexico man killed in Monday crash

ALAMOSA– A 57-year-old Santa Fe, NM Man was killed Monday morning after the sport utility vehicle he was driving failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Alamosa County Road 100 and Colorado Highway 370 and collided with another vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to SLV Health Regional Medical Center before being flown out to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.

The driver of a 1999 Ford Explorer was northbound on Road 100 (county line) when the accident occurred about 9 a.m. A 2008 Saturn Outlook driven by a 28-year-old female was traveling westbound on Highway 370 when the Ford failed to stop at the stop sign and traveled into the path of the Saturn.

The collision caused the Ford to travel off the roadway and roll 1 ¾ times. The Saturn also left the roadway and collided with a delineartor post, a fence post and an electrical pole.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, which did not reveal the identities of the parties involved, both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

“It is unknown at this time if alcohol and drugs were a contributing factor to the crash,” the CSP report said. “The crash is still under investigation.”
