City of Fort Morgan extends partnership to save Fair Board $5K

A healthy partnership between Morgan County and the City of Fort Morgan will again allow the Morgan County Fair Board to preserve expense related to the annual Morgan County Fair.

City Council agreed Tuesday to waive fees related to Morgan County’s annual request for picnic tables which are used on the Morgan County Fairgrounds during the Morgan County Fair.

The fair utilizes 30 picnic tables during a 15-day period which would typically cost $4,950. The Morgan County Fair is July 29 to Aug. 4.

“This is something we do every year,” Fort Morgan Director of Community Services Ty Hamer said in presentation of the fee waiver request to City Council. “They like to borrow our picnic tables for the event. It adds up, because they borrow the tables for 15 days.”

A memo from Fort Morgan Recreation Coordinator Emily Goggins reads that because of “previous success of the event, the proper care of the city’s property, and the economic benefits to the community,” the waiver was supported by staff.

City Council approved the request by a 6-0 vote, with Council Member Bill Garcia not in attendance.

The application from Morgan County Commissioners’ Administrative Services Manager Karla Powell reads that about 3,000 guests attend the Morgan County Fair each day and staff from Morgan County will pickup tables beginning July 25 and return on or before Aug. 9.

“They do a great job of picking them up and bringing them back,” Hamer said. “We’ve also never had a problem with damages to the tables.”
