1 man is dead after a single-vehicle crash on Route 58 a half-mile west of Route 689

Virginia State Police responded to the scene around 9:45 Friday morning.

A 1988 Ford Ranger was traveling west on Route 58 when it ran off the right side of the road, hit a tree at the bottom of an embankment, and overturned.

The driver was identified as Derick Wood, 34, of Bristol, who died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
