Ammunition and Suspected Meth Located When Warrant Subject Contacted, Says Hoopa Valley Tribal Police
This is a press release from the Hoopa Valley Tribal Police. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On 06/13/2022, at approximately 7 pm, Sergeant J. McCovey and Officer N. Flores were dispatched to the Hoopa Shopping Center for a subject passed out in a black mini van.
The van only had one male occupant sitting in the drivers seat. The subject was unconscious with the vehicle turned off. We contacted the subject and he immediately awoke. The subject was identified as Steven Sexton.
A warrant check was conducted that came back positive for an active probation violation warrant. Sexton was taken into custody to be booked into Humboldt County Jail for his warrant.
A inventory of the vehicle prior to being towed revealed a clear plastic bag with a white crystal substance lying on the floor behind the front seats believed to be methamphetamine. Also located was a small tin can that contained several rounds of ammunition in the back pocket of the drivers seat.
The contraband was collected and taken to be booked into HCSO evidence.
After conducting inventory, the vehicle was release to tow.

This is so scary. People and young children. This could have been a tragedy. Someone could have been injured or worse.

Yes. Sleeping in a parking lot, wow.
Call swat in such dangerous situations.
Could you please tell me the scary part? It said he was passed out, and awoke immediately upon contact. There’s nothing about the driver being a danger, or under the influence.
Or is the fact that the police used someone napping in their car as a reason to id and search the scary thing.. If so, tragedy wasn’t averted.
It is kinda scary when you consider all the people who are living out of their vehicles right now..
.
Better than napping with one front wheel hanging off the bridge! Kudos to Tribal Police for their efforts to keep everyone safe on the Rez.
It can’t be easy in such a small community.
Everyone knows everyone and that’s good and bad.
