Jonesboro television station KAIT said Hoover was captured at Riverbend Park, near Hardy.

According to the Sharp County Sheriff’s Department, dispatch received a 911 call around 11 a.m. yesterday regarding a subject being held hostage at a Highland convenience store. The sheriff’s department said when officers arrived at the store, a man identified as Joshua Hoover (pictured), fled the scene in a Toyota SUV, beginning a pursuit.

Officers say Hoover was pursued to an area outside of Hardy before losing him to heavy traffic.

In a Facebook post on Sunday night, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department reported the SUV was located wrecked near Highway 63 and Wolf Hollow Circle. Police say the vehicle was abandoned. They also confirmed it was stolen and that Hoover was wanted out of Craighead County.

According to a social media post from Hardy news outlet, the Hallmark Times, Riverbend Park was the location of the apparent initial abduction and hostage situation Sunday morning. Hoover had returned to the location when he was apprehended. The Times said the hostage escaped after locking themselves in the restroom of the convenience store and called for help.
