Brenda Frese has been doing the whole coaching thing for a long time, and she's one of the best in the business.
In 2006, Frese led Maryland Women's Basketball to its first ever National Championship. She is a six-time conference coach of the year, holds a 592-169 overall record, and will be entering her 21st season with the Terps.
We caught up with Coach Frese one-on-one to talk incoming transfers, the 2022-23 season and more.
"It's harder to stay on the top then it is to get to the top," said Frese. "For us it's the day in and day out, being consistent in who we are, what we teach, what the values are, and the players that we bring into our program."
Under Frese, the Terps have been to 11 straight NCAA Tournament appearances, and this year they hope to make it 12.
At the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, Maryland saw five players enter the transfer portal including Ashley Owusu, and All-American Angel Reese.
Frese and her staff then hit the transfer portal hard, bringing four all-conference players in: Honorable Mention All-American honoree Abby Meyers (Princeton), All-SEC transfer Lavender Briggs (Florida), All-AAC transfer Elisa Pinzan (USF) and All-CAA transfer Allie Kubek (Towson).
Frese also signed freshmen in Gia Cooke and Brianna McDaniel, then Ava Sciolla and Mila Reynolds signed with Maryland in November. Those four additions gave the Terps a top 10 recruiting class for the 15th time under their head coach.
Maryland also returns 2021 Big Ten tournament MVP, Diamond Miller, and Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year Shyanne Sellers.
The Terps will host the defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks and the UConn Huskies at Xfinity Center this year. The team's full schedule will be announced at a later date.
