LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Several areas across the bluegrass are still trying to clean up damage from Friday’s severe storms. The FOX 56 Weather Authority measured wind speeds in bath county around 60 to 70 miles per hour.
“Like many of the surrounding counties we had pretty significant wind, heavy rain, and a lot of lightning,” Salt Lick City Fire Department chief Brent Frizzell said.
Severe storms ran through parts of Salt Lick in Bath County. The fire department responded to a series of downed power lines and debris on the road.
“We had several reports of trees down, wires down that we responded to, I think a total of 10 in our immediate area,” Frizzell said.
Firefighters also shared photos of the damage they surveyed. Frizzell said the driver of a truck hit by a tree is lucky to be alive.
“Our initial run that we made was a large tree that had fallen on a van across US-60, that individual was able to escape without injury so he is very fortunate,” Frizzell said
Fire officials said fortunately the storm did not take a turn for the worse.
“Through the years, the history in the area we have seen significant storms obviously worse than what this was, but this did have a lot of potential,” Frizzell said
And for the rest of the night, Frizzell is asking residents to be aware of the roads.
“Keep in mind there may still be some trees, hanging across the roads or hanging low so travel with extra caution,” Frizzell said
Bath County Fire Department said they faced the brunt of the storm but remarkable no one was injured.
