Two elderly eastern Kentucky women have been found deceased in a residence.

Kentucky State Police said the two women, 76-year-old Sharon White and 77-year-old Brenda Mullins, were found deceased at a residence in the Lost Creek community in Breathitt County.

Their bodies were discovered at approximately 10:00 Wednesday night.

Police said one of the victims apparently started a car that was parked in a garage underneath the home. This action caused deadly, odorless carbon monoxide gas to enter the residence, likely leading the women to succumb to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The investigation is ongoing. The bodies were transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for autopsies.
