McMahill wins sheriff’s race outright, and other down-ballot primary results

Below are primary election results for Clark County commission, judicial, and other county offices, along with results from several other down-ballot contests.

Clark County Commission Dist. E

Republican Jon Rider prevailed in the primary over Dennis Ayala by a margin of 30 points. Incumbent Tick Segerblom beat back a challenge from Jacob “Jake” Macias.  Segerblom, a former state senator who has served one term on the commission, will meet Rider in the general election.   

Clark County Commission Dist. F

Drew Johnson prevailed in a four-way Republican primary over Mike Campion, John Ovnik, and Jenn Waltho.  Johnson will face incumbent Justin Jones, a former state senator who has served one term on the commission. 

Clark County Commission Dist. G

Billy Mitchell prevailed over Joe Ludwig in the Republican primary.  Mitchell will take on the incumbent, Jim Gibson, a former Henderson mayor who has served one term on the commission.  

District Attorney

Incumbent Steve Wolfson defeated challenger Ozzie Fumo in the Democratic primary by 17 percentage points.  Wolfson, who is seeking a third and final term as DA, faces Republican challenger Tim Treffinger in November. 

County Recorder 

Incumbent Debbie Conway handily beat back a Democratic primary challenge from Hunter Cain. John Evans defeated Traci Drake in the Republican primary and will take on Conway in November. 

County Treasurer

“Ken” J. Diaz prevailed over fellow Democrats Jaeden Cain, Gary M. Hosea, and Kenneth “Sully” O’Sullivan in the primary.  He will take on Mitchell T. Tracy, who defeated former school board trustee Kevin Childs, Reuel A. DeCastro, and Mary Marshall Lang on the Republican side. 

Public Administrator 

Rita Page Reid narrowly defeated Caroline Escobar and Rob Telles in the Democratic primary for Public Administrator.  Page will meet Patsy Brown in the general election.  Brown defeated Patrick Casale in the Republican primary. 

State University Regent Dist. 6

Heather Brown, who received 45.4% of the vote, will face Jeanine Dakduk (26.94%) in the general election.  The two topped primary candidates Karl Catarata and Brandon S. Manwill in the nonpartisan primary.

State University Regent Dist. 7

Former Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager was the top vote getter but did not win a majority in the five-way race.  She will face David “Coach” Crete in the general election.  

State University Regent Dist. 8

Michelee “Shelly” Crawford won the most votes in this six-way race but did not receive a majority.  She will square off against second-place finisher John Patrick Rice in the general. 

State University Regent Dist. 13

John Moran and Stephanie Goodman both garnered 40% of the vote in this three-way non-partisan race.  The two will face off in the general election.  

School District Trustee Dist. D

Incumbent Irene Cepeda and Brenda Zamora won the most votes in this five-way race.  The two will square off in the general election.

School District Trustee Dist. F

Former state lawmaker Irene Bustamante Adams won the most votes in a 10-person race. She will take on incumbent Danielle Ford in the general election.  

School District Trustee Dist. G

Incumbent Linda Cavazos won 35% of the vote in a crowded field of seven candidates. She’ll face Greg Wieman, who won 17%, in the general election. 

Clark County Sheriff

Former Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill won 58% of the vote over Tom Roberts and Stan Hyts to win the primary outright and avoid the general election. 

Boulder City Mayor

Longtime state lawmaker Joe Hardy defeated Kiernan McManus and Tanya Vece to win the non-partisan race outright with almost 66% of the vote.

Boulder City Council

Cokie Booth and Steve Walton were the top vote getters in a five-way nonpartisan race. They will advance to the general election. 

Henderson Mayor

Current councilwoman Michelle Romero handily defeated Drew Dison and Frank Ficadenti to win the seat outright with 75% of the vote.

Henderson Ward III

Carrie Cox and Trish Nash won the most votes in this six-way race. The two will face off in the November general election for this open seat. 

LV Municipal Court 2

Jeremy Cooley won 52% of the vote to defeat Andrew Coates and Benjamin Durham in the primary and avoid the general election. 

LV Council Ward 2

City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman defeated five challengers to retain her seat.

LV Council Ward 4 

Former councilman Bob Beers represented the ward from 2011 to 2015 but lost re-election over the Badlands Golf Course saga, in which the city attempted to prevent a golf course owner from building on his property. The city has since lost a related court battle and Beers is attempting to regain the seat. He will face Francis Allen-Palenske in the general election. 

LV Council Ward 6

Nancy Brune, the former leader of the Guinn Center, and Ray Spencer, a Metro homicide detective, were the top vote getters in this seven-way race.  The two will face off in November. 

Municipal Court Judge Dept. 6

Kelly Giordani won 58% to defeat Angela Dows in this two-way nonpartisan race. 

City of Mesquite Council Seat 4

Karen L. Dutkowski and Paul Wanlass will square off in the general election.  

Mayor of North Las Vegas

The next mayor of North Las Vegas will be a Black woman. Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brown won 37% of the vote but not enough to avoid a runoff with State Sen. Pat Spearman, who won just under 17%. 

NLV Council Ward 1

Councilman Isaac Barron beat back a challenge from Lance Robert Eliason to win the race outright with 67%. 

NLV Council Ward 3

Councilman Scott Black defeated Jovan Jackson and Marian Mitchell to win the race outright. 

NLV Municipal Judge Dept. 1

Longtime judge Chris Lee defeated challenger Jonathan MacArthur by 10 points to retain his seat.  

NLV Municipal Judge Dept. 2

Courtney Ketter won more than 50% to defeat Jason Gunnell in the primary. 

LV Justice of the Peace Dept. 6

Former Family Court Judge Bill Gonzalez and attorney Jessica Goodey won the most votes in this four-way race and will advance to the general election. 

LV Justice of the Peace Dept. 7

Public defender Max Berkley and private attorney Amy Wilson both won about 40 percent in this three-way race and will meet in the general election. 

LV Justice of the Peace Dept. 9

Incumbent Joe Bonaventure won 50.06% of the vote to narrowly avoid a run-off in the general election against Danielle “Piper” Chio, who won just under 31%.

LV Justice of the Peace Dept. 10

Prosecutor Noreen Demonte will face appointed Justice of the Peace Cybill Dotson in a general election runoff.  Dotson won 30.85% to Demonte’s 29.6%.

LV Justice of the Peace Dept. 16

Public defender Nadia Wood won 49.4% of the vote, but not enough to avoid a run-off against second place finisher Agnes Botelho, who won just under 23%.
