Mildred Ratigan, 92, of Redfield, SD, passed away Monday, May 16, 2022, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.
The Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Redfield, with Pastor Ron Parker officiating.
The burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, was in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and also watch the recorded service at www.schriversmemorial.com.
Mildred Mae Marlow was born February 27, 1930, to Ben and Rose (Keller) Marlow in Zell, SD. She married Maurice Ratigan on July 25, 1950, in Redfield. They had two sons Gene and Gary.
Mildred earned her Master’s degree in education through Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. She taught school for 37 years in various country schools in Spink County and moved to Redfield in 1961 where she taught 5th grade until her retirement.
Mildred and her husband were very active in the VFW and VFW Auxiliary. She held various local, state, and national offices. She was also active in the Redfield Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the congregational church circle. Mildred loved to play cards, play bingo, work on crossword puzzles and visit with friends.
Grateful for having shared Mildred’s life are her son, Gene Ratigan of Badger, SD, and his special friend, Brenda; sisters: Viola Hardie of Redfield, Elinor Jandel of Redfield, and Donna Johnsen of Tulare, SD; brother, Dale Marlow of Faulkton, SD; sister-in-law, Bonnie Marlow; four grandsons: Bobby (Kelly) Ratigan of Frankfort, SD, Michael (Allie) Ratigan of Mitchell, SD, Jeff Ratigan of Hayti, SD, and Ricky (Getta) Ratigan of Frankfort, SD; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Ratigan; son, Gary; parents, Ben and Rose; brothers: baby Ben Marlow, Howard Marlow, and Vern Marlow; brothers-in-law: James Hardie, Marvin Johnson, and Leo Jandel; sisters-in-law Betty Marlow and Virginia Marlow; and two daughters-in-law, Kathy Ratigan and Karen Ratigan.
