“What is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger.” That line from HBO’s “Game Of Thrones” applies to the network’s plethora of spin-off shows to the hit fantasy drama currently in development. And HBO has a lot of “Game Of Thrones” stuff they’re working on right now beyond “House Of The Dragon,” premiering this August. For how poorly the show dipped in quality in its final season, maybe what’s dead should stay dead, but that’s a topic for another time.

Now, Variety reports that HBO has yet another “Game Of Thrones” show in early development, and this one centers around crowd favorite Jon Snow. What’s more: Kit Harrington is attached to star in the series. So that means this show would be a sequel of sorts to the original show based on George R.R. Martin’s book series.
In the show’s final season, Jon Snow realizes his true identity as a rightful heir to the Iron Throne, but forsakes the title and ends the series in exile from Westeros, heading north with Tormund Giantsbane and the wildlings. Given that Snow’s half-siblings, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), are also alive at the end of the series, they may show up in this sequel as well.
Of course, that’s all speculation. There are four other live-action “Game Of Thrones” series in development at HBO right now, as well as an animated series or two based on Martin’s books. And then there was “Blood Moon,” a prequel show starring Naomi Watts that shot a pilot episode before HBO scuttled it after a poor reception from producers. So, while “9 Voyages,” “10,000 Ships,” “The Tales Of Dunk And Egg,” and “Flea Bottom” are all potential expansions to HBO’s “Game Of Thrones” empire, don’t take them as givens. All of these shows, including this Jon Snow one, may never even reach production.
But perhaps they will, someday, and that hinges upon how “House Of The Dragon” fares with critics and audiences later this summer. The prequel to the original series centered around the Targaryens premieres on HBO on August 21. So we’ll have to wait for the critical fallout from that show to see if Jon Snow gets resurrected yet again.
