Ryan Grantham, who starred in “Riverdale” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” pled guilty to second degree murder in March for the murder of his mother, and, according to CBC, had plans to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The British Columbia Prosecution Service confirmed to PEOPLE that Grantham’s plea to second degree murder of his mother Barbara Anne Waite carries a mandatory life sentence.
According to CBS, Grantham, 24, rehearsed the murder and filmed himself. He also filmed himself after the murder, confessing to the crime and showing his mother’s body.
Grantham, per Complex, mentioned his plan to kill Trudeau in a statement to police as well as excerpts read in court from his private journal. The outlet said Grantham never made it to Trudeau’s residence, and instead went to Vancouver police headquarters to turn himself in.
Grantham allegedly prepared three guns, along with ammunition and Molotov cocktails, camping supplies, and directions to Trudeau’s home printed from Google Maps. Though Grantham himself admitted to police that he originally intended to murder the Prime Minister, he instead turned himself in.
Grantham starred in 2010′s “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and a 2019 episode of “Riverdale.”
