ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The owners of the future Elk Lake Inn wanted to add 20 extra rooms, but they aren't getting that.
During the Elk Rapids Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, the board denied the request.
That variance would have changed the set of 20 luxury suites into 40 separate rooms.
While most people at Thursday's meeting opposed the approval of the variance, a select few were open to the idea of allowing more people to visit the Village of Elk Rapids.
"It's already a vacation destination. We can keep that little village we'd all like it to be or maybe why we came here, but there are always people on both sides. I don't care if it's 20 or 40, I'm just glad it's here."
After reviewing the statement of justification the inn needed in order to apply for the variance, the board denied its request.
Regardless of the decision, the inn will be built but with just 20 rooms.
