Boston Bruin Charlie Coyle, All-Star lineup ready for 2022 Seacoast Sports Awards Show

Charlie Coyle will be the guest speaker at the Seacoast High School Sports Awards Monday at The Music Hall in Portsmouth. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

PORTSMOUTH — Monday is the big night. The sixth annual Seacoast All-Star Sports Awards Show, sponsored by Seacoast Media Group, Piscataqua Savings Bank and Mass. General Brigham Sports Medicine at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, returns to The Music Hall, after a two-year pandemic hiatus, to honor the area’s top high school student-athletes.

More than 200 high school athletes from across the Seacoast area will be honored. The show will also name players of the year for more than 20 sports and include several major awards, including overall Players of the Year, Teams of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

The Seacoast High School Sports Awards will be held June 20 at The Music Hall.

The Piscataqua Bank Partner "I Am Sport Award" and Mass. General Brigham Sports Medicine at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Partner "Courage Award" will also be presented.  

The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Some tickets are still available for the event and can be ordered at sportsawards.usatoday.com/seacoast.

This year's guest speaker is Boston Bruins forward Charlie Coyle. Coyle has played in the NHL for 10 seasons with Minnesota and the Bruins. This past year he played in all 82 games for Boston with 16 goals and 28 assists.

“I’m honored to host the Seacoast High School Sports Awards this year," said Coyle. “These student athletes never cease to amaze me with their hard work and dedication, and I'm proud to be a part of recognizing and honoring their accomplishments."

Past event guest speakers have included former Boston-area athletes Danny Amendola (2017 inaugural show, New England Patriots), Pedro Martinez (2018, Boston Red Sox) and Paul Pierce (2019, Boston Celtics).

Coyle, 30, is a Weymouth, Massachusetts, resident who graduated from Weymouth High School and played collegiately at Boston University. He was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, and was traded to Minnesota in 2011 and then later dealt to the Bruins 2019.

There will be a guest appearance by comedian Juston McKinney, a Seacoast native, who will open the show with some sports humor. Tickets for McKinney’s annual Year in Review shows go on sale Wednesday, June 29 for four shows in December at The Music Hall. McKinney has made multiple appearances on "The Tonight Show," Conan O’Brien and other national television shows.

This year, the awards will honor top athletes in the fall, winter and spring seasons. There will be nominees in each sport and an overall winner announced. In addition, a female and male athlete of the year will be announced, as well as a team of the year and a coach of the year. The players of the year for baseball and softball will be honored with awards sponsored by New England Furniture.
