The Border Federal Credit Union staff and local leaders cut the ribbon on the facility’s new facelift June 8, the institution’s 68th anniversary of being in business.

“This is a special day for us,” said Maria Martinez, BFCU’s Chief Executive Officer, who celebrated her 25th year as CEO of the credit union the next day. “It’s going to allow us to provide our members even better service.

The update included another 10,000 feet being added to the BFCU’s headquarters at 2211 Bedell Ave. location, said Abram Rodriguez, BFCU public relations and marketing director.

The expansion benefits the information technology and accounting departments as well as a call center and 18 additional office spaces.

Plus, members are going to quickly notice the remodeled and more spacious lobby.

Now, the credit union has a community room that can seat 100 people, an executive board room and gives the staff a larger break room and kitchen.

BFCU certainly put its best foot forward for the event, bringing in Del Rio High School’s mariachi band to entertain guests while they waited for the speeches and ribbon cutting to start.

Afterwards, Martinez handed out $2 bills to all attendees with a business card sized note that said, “Thank you for joining us.” Also adding to the energy of the event, the ATM in the lobby was surprising people drawing money out with larger denominations than they requested.

BFCU also has local locations at 600 E.Gibbs St., and at Laughlin Air Force Base with branches in Eagle Pass and Crystal City.
