Buzz for “Blonde,” the Marilyn Monroe movie due out this fall, has centered around its NC-17 rating and first photos of Ana de Armas recreating famous images of the bombshell.
Now Netflix has released the first teaser for the film based on the novel from Princeton’s Joyce Carol Oates.
Oates’ historical novel “Blonde,” published in 2000, blurs Monroe’s real life with fiction and was a finalist for both the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award.
Netflix says the film, written and directed by Andrew Dominik (”Killing Them Softly”), reimagines the Hollywood icon and “the split between her public and private selves.” The movie depicts Monroe’s childhood as Norma Jeane Mortenson as well as her high-profile romances as an adult.
Joining Ana de Armas (”Knives Out,” “Deep Water“) in the film is Union City’s Bobby Cannavale and Lucy DeVito (daughter of Danny DeVito, who grew up in Asbury Park). The cast also includes Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Evan Williams and Xavier Samuel.
The NC-17 rating (no one 17 and under admitted) is for sexual content. Of course, this film, debuting Sept. 23 on Netflix, will mostly be consumed on home screens.
