Missouri State Lawmakers Demand U.S. Senator Roy Blunt to Withdraw Support of Bipartisan Gun Plan

With the support of U.S. Senator Roy Blunt, a bipartisan agreement has reportedly been reached on Capitol Hill regarding some gun safety measures but it’s drawing the ire of many Missouri State Republicans.

State Representative and House Speaker Tony Lovasco along with 48 members of the Missouri General Assembly are demanding U.S. Senator Roy Blunt “immediately and publicly withdraw support” for Red Flag laws designed to keep firearms out of the hands of potentially dangerous people.

Senator Blunt has been part of the negotiations, but Josh Hawley says Congress needs to take a different path.

Senator Hawley says he’d like to see what’s in the bipartisan legislation, but Missouri’s junior senator has attached his name along with eight other Republican senators to the “Stop Gun Criminals Act.”

The act would, among other provisions, set a minimum sentence of five years for illegally possessing a gun and increase the mandatory minimum sentence for serious repeat felons.
