Hall of Famer Greg Maddux was in the Duke City on Wednesday to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Isotopes game as well as promote the new coffee table book, Grassroots Baseball: Route 66.The book focuses on the culture of baseball in every state along Route 66. Balloon Fiesta, an Isotopes home game and the NMAA High School Baseball State Championships were among numerous events that photographer Jean Fruth captured.As for Maddux, the 1995 World Series Champion reflected on his many stops to Albuquerque while the pitching coach at UNLV."Tough place to pitch with the altitude and the weather," Maddux said. "It's definitely a place to hit than it is to pitch. But being in the same conference, the same college conference even growing up as a kid in Vegas, UNLV, and the New Mexico games - especially the basketball games - always seemed to mean a lot back in the '90s."Grassroots Baseball: Route 66 is on sale now at retailers nationwide.
