Members of both the Emery and Carbon High Rodeo teams took part in the Utah High School Rodeo Association State Finals in Heber City. And eleven students claimed top ten finishes in the 15 events. Emery’s Byron Christiansen claimed the All-Around top prize and Shalako Gunter of Carbon earned the top spot in Trap Shooting.
Christiansen, earned a third place finish in the bareback competition and second in the saddle bronc, as well as the 5th place spot in Reined Cow Horse. He also compiled enough points to earn the boys All-Around and was named to the Utah High School team that will compete at the Nationals in Gillette, Wyoming in July.
Gunter continued the run where she left off last season, taking the top spot in the Trap. Gunter posted a final score of 101.0, the second place finisher Chase Campbell of Ogden ended with a score of 94.
Ean Ellis finished in fourth place in the Tie Down Roping competition for Carbon. Gunter’s finish along with Ellis’ will allow them to represent Carbon as part of the Utah High School team at Nationals as well.
