Alma Rivinius

Alma Rivinius, age 92, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Elgin, ND, passed away at the Baptist Health and Rehab in Bismarck, ND, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services for Alma were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elgin, ND. Pastor Merle Hoot officiated with burial following in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Elgin. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church on Friday morning.

Alma Iszler was born on July 2, 1929, in Grant County, ND, to John and Lydia (Mueller) Iszler. She attended and graduated from New Leipzig High School in 1948. She was married to Rubert Rivinius on June 26, 1949. They raised three children, Dale, Carol and Audrey “Audie”. In the mid seventies Alma started working at Zacher’s Café and later at Larry’s Café for several years as a waitress and a cook. In 1979 they sold the farm and bought a house in Elgin. Alma went to work at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin. She worked there for 20 years and retired in 2001. Rubert passed away in October 1999. She continued to live in her home and enjoy retirement. In December 2010 she moved to the Dakota Hills in Elgin. In September 2011 she moved to the Baptist Health and Rehab in Bismarck where she resided until her death. Alma enjoyed music. She enjoyed going to listen to the Pearly Shells, her son Dale’s band of many years. Even though she suffered many years from Alzheimer’s she never lost the love for music. She loved seeing her grand and great-grandchildren and loved when all the family would get together.

Alma was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was active in the church. She sang in the choir and was a member of the German Ladies Aide serving as secretary and president. She also taught Sunday school for several years and was a 4-H leader. Alma was a caring and generous person and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. She had many friends and enjoyed going to the local café in Elgin to have coffee and visit with the ladies that would come in.

Alma is survived by her children, Dale (Linda) Rivinius, Lemmon, SD, Carol (Archie) Goodrich, Lemmon, SD and Audrey “Audie” Schantz, Eugene, OR; six grandchildren, Melissa (Don) Bleyle, Detroit Lakes, MN, Mike (Robin) Rivinius, Richardton, ND, Wendy (Ron) Hausauer, Ozark, MO, Naomi (Brian) Faulhaber, Dickinson, ND, Lyla Beitelspacher, Bismarck, ND and Jeanne David; 14 great-grandchildren, Chantz, Kane, Sawyer Rivinius, Noah, Bayli, Kaleb Hausauer, Jayden (Nathan) Erdman, Miranda and Angel Hausauer, Jaxon, Ember, Beitelspacher, Landyn Brubaker, Layne and Lesley Faulhaber; sister, Hertha Adolf, Bismarck, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, former son-in-law, Les Beitelspacher and many dear friends in the Elgin area.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Rubert Rivinius; her parents, John and Lydia Iszler; brother, Ervin Iszler; and brother-in-law, Ray Adolf.

Alma’s family would like to thank the staff at the Baptist Health and Rehab in Bismarck for the wonderful care they gave her during her stay there. Alma will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
