Kody Clemens just couldn’t help put follow in his father’s footsteps after just over two weeks in the big leagues.
Roger Clemens’ son, who was called up to the majors last month for his big-league debut, isn’t a pitcher like his father was, but he was for just a short while on Wednesday afternoon.
With the Tigers trailing the White Sox 11-0 in the eighth inning, Clemens came on to pitch as a position player, allowing an earned run on three hits in one inning of work in an eventual 13-0 loss.
With that first pitching appearance, Clemens needs just over 700 more to reach his father’s career mark. He also needed about 50 mph more on his pitches to reach his dad’s normal velocity, as the RBI single he surrendered to Yoan Moncada came in at 44.4 mph.
The game was a laugher in Detroit, and MLB Twitter had plenty of jokes about the difference between the Clemens pitchers after Kody took the mound.
