A man and a woman have been arrested in Jeff Davis County, and are facing multiple charges, after authorities discovered a firearm, cocaine and other drugs in a home.
On Friday, June 10, the Jeff Davis County Drug Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on John long Road.
During the search of the residence approximately a quarter pound of cocaine and crack cocaine were discovered. Illicit prescription drugs, a firearm, small quantity of marijuana and packaging materials were also discovered.
Darius Javon Sturgis and Markeisha Dawn Burney were arrested and charged.
Darius Javon Sturgis, of Lumber City, Ga, was charged with the following:
- trafficking cocaine
- possession of scheduled IV controlled substance (alprazolam)
- possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
- possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- possession of marijuana less than one ounce
- possession of drug related objects
Authorities say other charges are pending.
Markeisha Dawn Burney, of Hazlehurst, Ga was charged with:
- trafficking cocaine
- possession of scheduled IV controlled substance (alprazolam)
- possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
- possession of marijuana less than one ounce
- possession of drug related objects
In a post to the Jeff Davis County Sheriff's Office Facebook Page, the agency says "Sheriff Bohannon would also like to remind everyone to encourage a child to say no to drugs and remember, if you SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. That could be the difference between you, your family or your neighbors from being the next victim of a crime."
