The Old Logandale School was alive with activity on Saturday morning, June 11. Local shoppers gathered in and around the building to attend the ‘Second Saturday Market.’

Held on the second Saturday of each month, this event has been recurring and growing since January. Local vendors and small business owners set up shop at the Old Logandale School to sell homemade or homegrown goods.

Various food trucks were parked in the parking lot of the old school. Kuppa Joe, Soda Bomb, Nattie’s Thai Kitchen, and Taste of Home were all selling refreshing food and drinks to customers.
Inside the air conditioned building were many more booths.

At the entrance, Moapa resident Cally Wade could be found at her stand selling local honey, jellies, and more. Wade is the mastermind behind this monthly market.
“I saw a need here in the community,” Wade said. “We don’t have anything like this here and I thought we needed a community event to help entrepreneurs grow.”

Wade has been managing her own small business and farm for around ten years. “I’m open to help any vendors, anyone looking to start a business,” she said. “I’m happy to help with licensure and make them a part of the market.”

Around fifteen more booths could be found in the gym. Local vendors sold things like home-grown produce, fresh baked goods, clothes, books, soap, artwork, local honey, microgreens, and more.

At one stand, Kirsten Pope of “Ika Greens” sold fresh vegetables which were grown using methods such as hydroponics and aquaponics. Pope has been setting up shop at the Second Saturday Market since it began in January.
“We love what [Wade] has been doing,” Pope said. “Today has been awesome. There have been a lot of people here. We’re excited to be here and see it grow.”

At another stand, Moapa-resident Bradley Taylor sold colorful hand-made fishing lures. Taylor sells fishing lures through his business “Desert Jigs.” The lures take him about 45-50 minutes to make from start to finish. Saturday was his first time selling his products at the market.
“I’ve been doing pretty well today actually,” Taylor said. “I definitely plan to continue.”

In the middle of the room, Lyndie Michalosky sold fresh produce and baked goods. Michalosky’s business “Four Seasons Market and Bakery” has been a part of Second Saturday Market since February. It takes her at least two days to harvest from her garden and prepare her baked goods before market day.

For the remaining summer months, Second Saturday Market will be relocated to the Fine Arts Building at the fairgrounds.
“[The move] will create space for more vendors and make it a lot more comfortable for visitors,” Wade stated.

Next month, Wade is teaming up with Clark County Parks and Recreation to create a fun event for the whole family.
“It’s kind of all up in the air right now but we’re hoping to add more kid-friendly activities to make it a big community event,” Wade said.

The next Second Saturday Market will be held on July 9 from 8am -12 noon. Join them at the fairgrounds to support local businesses and enjoy food, art, and more!

  1. Needs to cost less for the vendors, and open ALL DAY for the shoppers. I would be willing to just come over and help out……make some signs, and put them out on the Hwy to DRAW IN MORE CUSTOMERS….the Food Trucks should be LOCALS ONLY, not Vegas people, and again Very Affordable.
