The Frontier at the Fort Andross Mill building in Brunswick will have a new restaurant and partner.

I love The Frontier. It's a mix of art, music, film, and my favorite food. I've even performed at the little theater in a terrifying storytelling event. The event wasn't terrifying, I was just really nervous. The Frontier has a cafe, a 120-seat restaurant, an art gallery, and that 62-seat movie theater and performance space all tucked inside the incredibly cool Fort Andross Mill. The mill was built in 1809. In the 80's they renovated it for offices and studios.

According to The Frontier's website, the pandemic took its toll. The gathering place for friends and artists couldn't gather for the past couple of years. It was hard to keep the space alive and vibrant.

Michael Gilroy who owns The Frontier said that the past two years have been a maze-like journey. He's been in talks with Tom Grim who owns Nomad Pizza based in New Jersey. It's wood-fired pizza and Mainers might be familiar with the pizza as they were here last summer traveling throughout Maine serving their wood-fired pizza from a mobile pizza truck, in search of a new home.

Tom has been a long-time Frontier customer, and always thought it would be perfect for a Maine brick-and-mortar. Gilroy agreed. But, they had to agree on some fundamentals Gilroy wasn't willing to compromise. That includes using local farmers and keeping the space accessible to the public. Nomad Pizza will open at Frontier later this summer, taking over restaurant space that has been pretty empty since the start of the pandemic.

I love this space in Brunswick and I'm excited to see Nomad move in. I love pizza, so count me as a customer!
