ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WDHN) — Since the beginning of June, the city of Abbeville has seen two separate shootings. Abbeville Police are now asking for help from the community.
Abbeville Police say they now have the evidence to believe the shooting on June 3rd and the shooting on June 13th are related.
“There’s still not any direct ties that we can connect the two, but there is some circumstantial evidence that is leading us to believe that it’s the same people involved,” Abbeville Police Chief, Eric Blankenship said.
Abbeville Police has seen two separate shootings since the beginning of June. The first shooting happened on June 3rd when shots were fired on McSwean Drive. No one was injured but the house that was hit was occupied and a gas tank was also hit by a bullet.
The second shooting was discovered on June 13th at the intersection of Kirkland Street and Church Street in Abbeville when the owner went outside to get in his truck and found bullet holes. An unoccupied building was also hit.
Abbeville Police are currently in the process of obtaining search warrants and conducting interviews, however, currently, they aren’t able to release information on the suspects because of their age.
“But also the fact that several of the people involved are juveniles,” Blankenship said.
Chief Blankenship also asks for help from the community in reporting crimes that they see.
“It makes it a little bit tough because we are going to have to go back through and piece together the timeframes and the motives and so forth with it,” Blankenship said.
Chief Blankenship says that they are a small agency, but with every case, they have to treat it like a big agency and it can bring its challenges.
