The 53rd annual Governor's Dinner will take place Thursday, July 21, on the grounds of the Governor's Mansion in Carson City.

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, Olympic Gold Medalist, and NCAA Champion Rebecca Lobo will headline Northern Nevada's premier summer social event.

This marks a historic first for the Governor’s Dinner, as Lobo will serve as the first female headliner of the event, coinciding with Nevada Athletics’ celebration of the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the landmark federal legislation that prohibits gender discrimination in education.

As the 1995 Consensus National Player of the year, Lobo led the University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team to its first National Championship. In 1996, she won a gold medal as the youngest member of the U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team, before embarking on a successful seven-year WNBA career.

In 2001, Rebecca and her mother, RuthAnn, founded “The RuthAnn and Rebecca Lobo Scholarship in Allied Health and Nursing” at the University of Connecticut to encourage diversity in the health professions.

Rebecca retired from the WNBA in the fall of 2003, was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017, and now works as an ESPN basketball analyst and motivational speaker. She is married to Sports Illustrated columnist Steve Rushin. The couple lives in Connecticut with their four children and host a weekly podcast, Ball & Chain.

The 53rd annual Governor's Dinner kicks off with a private VIP reception featuring live music and cocktails at 5 p.m., and the backyard opens to other guests at 6 p.m., with the dinner and program at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $350 per person and tables of 10 for $3,500. VIP tickets, which include the pre-event VIP reception along with complimentary valet, pictures with Lobo, and premier reserved seating for the dinner and program, are $500 a person with tables at $5,000. The registration deadline is July 17.
