Wheeling’s Centre Market is seeing two sides of business -- as new locations open and others try to stay ahead of inflation.
Coming over from St. Clairsville, For Love of Pierogis is now a part of Wheeling’s “eclectic mix of shops and quality dining.”
“We were really excited that we were able to have a space for them as soon as we did,” Centre Market Manager Brooke Price “Now that there is some buzz down here, we are kind of starting to get a wait list for businesses that want in."
And with the restaurant's high following on social media, Price says more people have made a trip to Centre Market this week.
But while new businesses open, others see issues from inflation costs.
“A lot of the business have expressed that their costs of doing business has gone up, and nobody wants to raise their prices so they have had to be really diligent with making sure they can make cuts where they can but keeping the quality
Business like Valley Cheese have seen a price jump the last 3 months by at least 25 cents every single week.
"Before we price stuff, we have to check our inventory to see how they price stuff, because if they're charging us then we have to charge you more," Assistant Manager Diane Todd said.
So, for now, officials are trying to fill the empty spaces with unique businesses to make Centre Market thrive.
