WR Rankings: Kayshon Boutte

As we review the WR rankings, players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Kayshon Boutte, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

  • The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
  • Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
  • Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
  • We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

LSU wide receiver, Kayshon Boutte has been a dynamic weapon for the Tigers over the first two years of his career. He finished his true freshman season with a 300 yard game against Mississippi and had nine touchdown catches in his first five games of 2021. Boutte had an impressive 38 catches for 508 yards and those nine touchdowns in just six games before an injury ended his 2021 season. He has been a star for the LSU offense when he is on the field and should continue to thrive in 2022.

Boutte has elite athleticism and knows how to put it to work on the football field. He is an athletic mismatch for most defenders he faces and is able to create separation with his explosive speed. Boutte does an excellent job getting open on crossing routes where he can accelerate away from defenders. His speed and change of direction ability make it tough to cover him one on one, as it only takes one misstep to give up a big play. Boutte is able to create separation with ease, making it easy for the quarterback to get him the ball.

Boutte is a solid 6’0″ 190 lbs and uses that size well after the catch. His speed and change of direction ability make it tough enough for defenders to contain him, but the strength makes it even harder. Boutte has the physicality to fight through arm tackles and pick up yards after contact. He is able to make big plays on simple plays by fighting off the first tackler and then letting his athleticism take over in the open field. Boutte can find the endzone in variety of ways, making him a difficult match-up for the defense.

Kayshon Boutte is a game changer at the receiver position. He has an elite athletic profile and uses that athleticism to get open and to do damage after the catch. Boutte tracks the ball well downfield and is able to adjust his path and make catches on errant throws. He is a high impact player at the receiver position who should have a big year in 2022.
