WR Rankings: Jayden Reed

As we review the WR rankings, players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Jayden Reed, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

  • The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
  • Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
  • Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
  • We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Michigan State wide receiver, Jayden Reed proved to be a prolific weapon for the Spartans in 2021. He built on a solid 2020 season and elevated his play to become the top receiver for Michigan State. Reed led the team with 1,026 receiving yards on 59 catches and 10 touchdowns. He made the big plays at key moments, including key late catches against Penn State and Michigan, helping the Spartans put together an excellent 2021 season.

Reed has the speed and explosiveness to be a dangerous downfield threat. He has the long speed to get behind the coverage and outrun defenders for long gains. Reed also accelerates very well, showing the ability to pull away from defenders and get to open space. He uses this ability to both get open downfield and to create yards after the catch on shorter routes and pop passes. Reed has the athleticism and downfield ability to score at any time for the offense.

Reed is listed at 6’0″ 185 lbs and plays with the toughness of a bigger receiver. He is physical when fighting for positioning, giving himself the best chance to win in contested situations. Reed has the strength and concentration to fight through contact and make difficult catches. He high points the ball well and has the body control to adjust to the ball and make the play. Reed has earned his quarterback’s trust and wins regularly in 50/50 situations.

Jayden Reed is a big time weapon who can put his stamp on the game from anywhere on the field. He has a good blend of speed, hands and toughness that make him tough to keep contained. Reed has proven to be a clutch performer making big plays in big spots. He is a complete receiver who has earned a spot among the top receivers in college football.
