One of the most surprising moves of the 2022 NFL offseason was the Green Bay Packers trading star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders. Adams is arguably the best wide receiver in the league but he will be taking his talents west for the foreseeable future.

The Packers placed the franchise tag on Adams, but he had no intentions of playing this season out under the tag. It seemed as if their relationship was too far gone, so Green Bay got what they could for him, accepting a first and second-round pick from the Raiders.

As more time passes, we have gotten a little more insight into why Adams ultimately decided that Green Bay was no longer the place for him. James Palmer of NFL Network recently shared another update on departing.

The uncertainty surrounding Aaron Rodgers seems to have played a big part. While Rodgers committed to the Packers signing an extension this offseason with plans of retiring with the franchise, how many more seasons he will be playing is anyone’s guess.

As Adams shared, it could be one or two, which would have left him with uncertainty at the quarterback position. Looking to avoid that, he decided that playing with the Raiders and catching passes from his collegiate quarterback at Fresno State, Derek Carr, was the best decision for him.

Rodgers understood and respected that, as the two were in regular contact figuring out where their football futures would be. There were also things off the field that made Las Vegas a better fit for Adams at this stage in his career.

He wanted to be closer to home, which he now is. Where he wanted to raise his kids and family played a big part in deciding to leave Green Bay as well, which a person can never be faulted for.

Davante Adams and Rodgers had plenty of good talks and came away with a mutual understanding of where each person was coming from. While they would have assuredly loved to continue playing together, it was not meant to be.
