A Stone County man is facing a felony theft-by-receiving charge after authorities say a stolen utility terrain vehicle (UTV) was discovered in his yard.

According to the arrest affidavit, deputies were called to the residence of Everett Wayne Galloway, 58, in the Optimus community on June 3 after receiving information that a Can-Am UTV that had been stolen out of Baxter County in March was parked in Galloway’s yard.

After locating and towing the UTV, the case was turned over to Stone County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dammon McGilton for further investigation.

The affidavit said investigators learned that other property had allegedly been stolen at the time of the theft that was not recovered. A search warrant was then obtained and executed at the Optimus residence by members of the Stone County Sheriff’s Department, Mountain View Police Department, the 16th District Drug Task Force, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Department, and Arkansas Game and Fish.

Officers located a battery-operated chainsaw, saw chains, a saw case, and hand tools. The value of all property recovered was approximately $20,000, according to McGilton. All of the recovered property was turned over to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Department and returned to the owner.

Galloway was later arrested on one Class C felony count of theft by receiving. McGilton said Galloway may face other charges in Baxter County.

Galloway (pictured) is currently in the Stone County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
