Third annual Train Day to be this weekend in Redfield

Posted

Join us at our third annual Train Day in Redfield June 11.  The event takes place at the CNW Historical RR Depot from 10 am-4 pm.   Kids can pick up free engineer hats and bags at the registration desk.
The Dakota Southeastern Division, DSED, will have an N-scale 18’X12’ L-shaped operating railroad layout operating throughout the day.  Kiddos will have the opportunity to run the train and earn an engineer’s certificate.   DSED is a division of the National Model Railroad Association.
Free rides aboard the barrel train will also continue throughout the day. There will be plenty of picture taking opportunities as well.  Catch a ride on the motorcars.  They will take you down past the elevator for a tour of Redfield not normally available. The operators are members of NARCOA, the North American Railcar Operation Alliance. This organization is dedicated to the preservation and safe, legal operation of railroad equipment historically used for maintenance of way.
At noon, come inside and listen to SD. Humanities speaker Rick Mills, the director of the South Dakota State Railroad Museum, share the history of railroading in South Dakota.
