Atwell's Captain Carter debuted in Disney+'s animated series What If...?, followed by a surprise appearance as one of the founding members of the Illuminati in Multiverse of Madness.

After Captain Carter's brutal death in the Doctor Strange sequel, fans are wondering about the character's chances of returning in the future of the MCU, or is it just a one-and-done deal? Thankfully, Hayley Atwell recently discussed her involvement in the mega-franchise.

At 2022's Awesome Con (Via The Cosmic Circus), Hayley Atwell was questioned about Captain Carter's future in the MCU.

"Well...I haven't got news for you. But I share your enthusiasm," Atwell responded. "And I would love to if Marvel did find a home for her; that's a home that feels worthy of her in terms of her evolution as a character and development as a character:

Atwell went on to discuss Captain Carter's significance, both to her life and to the mega-franchise. Although she's aware that Captain Carter was just a minor role in the world of superheroes, she remains grateful for the part.

"The experience I’ve had in playing her has given me the most incredible opportunity to hone my particular craft in this franchise," she said. "And I’ve got more to do, and because I feel the fans deserve that. In some ways, with a lot of people, she’s a minor player, and it wouldn’t make sense if I was to continue to be a minor player in that if it felt like, well, this is a different time. And also particularly as a woman with everything that’s happened the last few years. When she says in her timeline, 'I know my value and everyone else’s opinion; it doesn’t matter,' that’s really good."

After playing a love interest for Chris Evan's Captain America, it might be the perfect time to give Atwell a more notable role. After all, several women actresses who started as love interests for an MCU character have now evolved to more substantial roles, such as Natalie Portman's upcoming role as Lady Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder, and Rachel McAdams' recent outing as Earth 838's Christine Palmer variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

However, if ever Marvel Studios proceeds with Atwell's Captain Carter, they must first settle who is the legitimate successor of Captain America if two characters possess Steve Roger's vibranium shield. If two characters wearing the Captain America mantle are roaming around the MCU, fans might get extremely confused, or furious.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will premiere on Disney+ on June 22.
