Wellness Ctr gets new equipment

The Olney Wellness Center has six new exercise machines to tempt members and would-be members to embark on a summer training regimen. The Center swapped out two treadmills, two elliptical trainers and a recumbent cycle for new models and added an Ascent Trainer, said program coordinator Missy Reed.

Cardio enthusiasts can enjoy smooth rides and a selection of workout programs on the Matrix Lifestyle Treadmills, which feature large internet-connected screens. The Matrix Recumbent Cycle offers a low-impact cardio workout while comfortably distributing a user’s weight and maximizing body support.

The Ascent Trainer simulates mountain climbing and offers a full-body, low-impact workout, Reed said.

“Every couple of years we try to update our equipment or add new pieces,” she said. “We do preventative maintenance every three months to make sure our members are safe.”

The mix of machines also is designed to attract “more of the younger generation to come in and be members,” Reed said. “We are constantly adding new members.”

In the summer months, the Wellness Center is a great place to get out of the heat and continue their workout regimens, she said. “We have an climate controlled, indoor track. Twenty-six laps equals 1 mile and there is always someone to help you.”

Every morning, the staff posts a new core workout using the Center’s slam balls, kettle bells and battle rope. Membership fees include yoga classes on Mondays and Thursdays.

The costs for membership are $30 per month for over age 60, $40 for 59 years and under, and a $25 per month student-athlete special during the summer months, she said.

“We encourage you to come check out our facility,” she said. “You will not be disappointed in our state-of-the art facility.”
