Youssoufa Moukoko put in an exemplary performance for the Germany U-21s on Tuesday, scoring a brace in their U-21 European Championship qualifier against Poland.

The Germany youth international and Borussia Dortmund striker has seen an uptick in form over the course of the last few games both at club and international level. Youssoufa Moukoko has now scored four goals in his last three games for club and country.

At the Germany U-21s level, Moukoko has scored six goals in four appearances, which is an impressive haul to say the least. It’s this sort of form that will have supporters nervous in terms of the striker’s contract situation.

While the club has been very clear about the fact that they want to extend the 17 year old’s stay at the Westfalenstadion, Moukoko has been rather coy regarding his future, refusing to comment on it in a recent interview.

Moukoko’s contract runs out in 2023 and the club would certainly be against letting the player go on a free transfer. This would indicate that if an agreement isn’t reached, the player would likely be sold this summer.

Moukoko is coming off an underwhelming season due to injuries and overall squad underperformance. His lack of playing time has set in motion a period of reflection for the young player that may see him seek pastures new.

Youssoufa Moukoko has stated that he is determined to make his impact in the first team and wants to take the next step in his development next season. Of course, nothing is certain as of yet but if Moukoko’s performances for the national team are anything to go by, he is a player Dortmund will want to do their best to keep hold of.
