KINGMAN — The Mohave County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of a Golden Valley woman who died in custody last month after an apparent self-imposed hunger strike.
The sheriff's office identified the woman as 69-year-old Susan Jane Mish.
Mish was pronounced dead by hospital staff at Kingman Regional Medical Center on May 25 after being taken to the hospital by Mohave County Adult Detention Facility personnel when she refused to eat or drink for several days while at the jail.
She was booked into the jail May 14 on a trespassing charge.
An autopsy has been performed by the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office, but the sheriff's office said Friday that detectives still were awaiting a final report, including lab results, which will determine the cause of death.
The sheriff's office did not indicate when that report would be received or its contents released to the public.
Mish's identity had been withheld until relatives could be notified of her death.
The sheriff's office statement did not say when that notification was completed.
