Todd Rundgren and ex-King Crimson frontman Adrian Belew have signed on to lead the 2022 'Celebrating David Bowie' tour.

Rundgren, a longtime friend of Bowie and a like-minded iconoclast, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.

Belew was a member of Bowie's band in 1978 - 79 and performed on Bowie's double-live album Stage. In 1990, Belew again worked with Bowie as musical director of the Sound+Vision tour.

Other notable members of the Celebrating Bowie band include Spacehog frontman Royston Langdon, Fishbone saxophonist Angelo Moor and singer-songwriter Jeffrey Gaines.

The musicians will select and perform material from different eras of Bowie's eclectic career.

"David Bowie was a master," Langdon told Rolling Stone in a statement. "It's impossible to put into words quite how much he taught me. It gives me a huge thrill to get to honor Mr. B & to be a small part of this immense celebration of his life & work with these world-class musicians and everyone, who like me feels his energy alive and vital around me now just as it was then & forever shall be."

The backing band will include bassist Angeline Saris, drummer Michael Urbano, saxophonist Ron Dziubla and guitarist Angelo 'Scrote' Bundini. Bundini organized the first Celebrating David Bowie shows in 2017.

Rundgren, who joined the Celebrating Bowie collective in 2018, was asked about his kinship with Bowie in an interview with Billboard the previous year.

"We shared the fact that you don't settle down to a single style of music and sort of milk it until your career is over," he said. "David has more of that Andy Warhol kind of sensibility, a pop sensibility. he always had a well-cultivated self-image, and I never worked that much on my self-image. He was a character whenever you saw him, and I'm only a personal when I'm onstage — if that."
