Worth County Receives “Good” Rating in Audit

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Worth County received an overall “Good” rating in an audit by the Missouri State Auditor. A “Good” rating indicates the entity is well managed with a few findings that the entity has indicated most or all recommendations have already been, or will be, implemented.

Findings in the audit of Worth County includes the Prosecuting Attorney does not issue receipt slips for all money received. Spreadsheets sent to victims and defendants showing current restitution account receivable balances are not always accurate. The Recorder of Deeds has not established proper procedures for receipting and recording money received and does not perform adequate bank reconciliations.

The Sheriff’s office log of seized property evidence has not been maintained and a physical inventory has not been conducted since the Sheriff took office in January 2021.

The audit also found the County Collector, Recorder of Deeds, and Sheriff have not established adequate passwords controls to reduce the risk of unauthorized access to computers and data. And the county has not developed a records managements and retention policy in compliance with guidelines.
