Out of favour Leicester City centreback Jannik Vestergaard has indicated that he shall remain a Foxes player for the upcoming season.

Foxes of Leicester almost gleefully and very recently reported that Vestergaard was likely to be sold this summer, as per Jordan Blackwell’s claim. I have found the journalist to be particularly careful and correct in what he has asserted concerning Leicester over the years I have been covering LCFC.

Yet this latest revelation from the Denmark international doesn’t necessarily mean the Leicestershire club would agree with his impending reappearance on Filbert Way, nor at the Seagrave training complex. Vestergaard is clearly not in manager Brendan Rodgers’ plans: even midfielders like Wilfred Ndidi – when fit – and trustworthy utility man Daniel Amartey were ahead in the centrehalf pecking order.

Therefore the suggestion from Blackwell is still the likely scenario: Leicester will attempt to rid themselves of the former Southampton CB. Notice signified in italics for emphasis that LCFC will try to offload Vestergaard. Because, of course, the reporter never stated that selling would be a foregone conclusion.

Using the ex-Saint as enticement in a swap deal for a more accomplished, younger defensive player – such as William Saliba, as I drift into dreamland – is an obvious dimension the Foxes could explore. Obtaining the reported £17million paid for the Dane is another issue entirely. Possible even an impossible aspect. Naturally, when a relatively ageing athlete – Vestergaard turn 30 years old in August- produces overall poor performances during a debut campaign for a new club, their prospective price drops drastically.

So, what has the Fox said to make FoL contemplate his destiny? Well, whilst on international duty with Danish Dynamite – that’s the amazing nickname of Kasper Schmeichel’s country’s team – Vestergaard confirmed he’ll return to Leicester for preseason and, potentially, the upcoming season:

"“…playing time is crucial over a long period of time, also to be the best version of myself. I’m working hard on that. I will be highly motivated when I return to Leicester to improve that and I think it will benefit me with a little break at the back of this and a full pre-season”"
