Madame Web Movie Casts The Serpent Star Tahar Rahim in Mysterious Role

Ever since the box office success of the Venom films, Sony's Spider-Man Universe franchise has expanded further as they are exploring the different villains in the catalog that they can adapt to the big screen with one of them being Madame Web, which is set to begin production soon ahead of its release next year. We've been hearing a lot of updates regarding the project and now we have yet again another exciting development regarding its casting.

According to Deadline, The Serpent star Tahar Rahim has joined the cast of Madame Web. The details regarding his mysterious role in the film are under wraps for now. S.J. Clarkson is attached to direct the film. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the screenplay.

The cast already includes Dakota Johnson (as the titular character), Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O'Connor, and Isabela Merced. The film is described as an "origin story of the clairvoyant, whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world." Due to her psychic sensory powers, she is being described as Sony's version of Doctor Strange. It will be the first female-led film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe franchise.

Rahim is known for his roles in films such as A Prophet, The Past, Mary Magdalene, The Mauritanian (where he earned a BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations), and the upcoming film Napoleon. He starred in the Hulu limited series The Looming Tower, Netflix limited series The Eddy and The Serpent, and the upcoming Apple TV+ series Extrapolations.

While we don't know yet the character that Rahim is going to play, it is still exciting to see him join the film since he is a talented actor and we could imagine him playing either a good character or a villain that might be similar to his role in The Serpent. As the film is set to begin production shortly, we might be hearing more casting news in the next several days.
