MALONE — After two years off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Malone Fish and Game Club’s kids fishing derby returned to the pond on College Avenue Saturday.
The village’s free youth fishing derby got its start in the early 1970s.
“It’s been around a long time,” club president Steve Savage said. “Of course with COVID, the last two years we haven’t been able to do it, but those are the only years we haven’t had the derby.”
Prizes were awarded for the biggest trout and smallest trout, by length. Poles and worms were the participants’ tools. No treble hooks or lures were allowed.
Two bicycles, fishing rods, bike helmets and cash prizes were also raffled.
