Kim Dickens Raves Over Madison's 'Fear the Walking Dead' Return

Fear the Walking Dead Season 7 came to a dramatic conclusion on Sunday, June 5 with its 16th episode, "Gone."

The episode saw the return of a character fans previously thought dead: Madison Clark, who was the original leader of the series before she seemingly died in Season 4.

Portrayed once again by Kim Dickens, here is everything you need to know about the character's unexpected comeback in the Season 7 finale.

In the Season 7 finale, Madison returned when Morgan Jones (played by Lennie James) was buried in the sand and left to die after being mistaken for a child thief.

The child thief, it turns out, is Madison, who has been taking the kids for the P.A.D.R.E organization, and she says that in order to be reunited with his daughter, Mo, Morgan will have to make a trade.

The pair make a deal: if Madison helps Morgan get Mo back then he will tell her what happened to her children, Nick (Frank Dillane) and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey).

Morgan decides to help Madison by leading her to a pregnant woman named Ava, except the whole encounter was a trap and in the end the pair save each other from some very close calls with Walkers.

The episode ends with both Morgan and Madison being blindfolded and taken onto a large ship, potentially to the P.A.D.R.E organization.

What Has Kim Dickens Said About Her Return as Madison?

After the episode was released, Dickens spoke to Entertainment Weekly about her big comeback and admitted it was a "challenge" to play this iteration of her character.

Admitting she "loved the idea" of Madison being controlled by P.A.D.R.E, Dickens said: "I felt like the way they were writing Madison when I just got the script, it was just right in line."

She went on: "It was challenging to play, and it didn't really surprise me because she always kind of had a wobbly compass, but also her decisions were ultimately based on protecting her children and her family. It was still Madison to me, albeit completely different. It was exciting to have the challenge."

The Season 7 finale also marked the first time that Dickens shared the screen with James, as their characters were never in the same location before.

Of their scenes together, Dickens told the publication: "To come back in this way, with these two characters, coming back in an antagonistic way, it was really kind of fiery and explosive. There's no greater scene partner than Lennie James, because we just had to jump in."

Fear the Walking Dead Seasons 1 to 7 are available to watch on AMC+ now.
